The Federation Star of Peace represents the highest civilian honor that can be bestowed upon Starfleet personnel for extraordinary contributions to interstellar peace, humanitarian relief, and the protection of civilian populations during times of crisis.

Guardian of Civilization

Instituted in 2311 following the Tomed Incident, the Federation Star of Peace acknowledges that Starfleet’s mission extends beyond exploration and defense to encompass the protection and nurturing of peaceful civilizations throughout the galaxy.

Award Qualifications

Eligible actions include:

  • Preventing or ending major conflicts through non-military means
  • Leading massive humanitarian relief operations saving thousands of lives
  • Protecting civilian populations at great personal or professional risk
  • Establishing lasting peace between former enemies
  • Developing technologies or protocols that prevent humanitarian disasters
  • Coordinating multi-species relief efforts during galactic emergencies

Star Configuration

The decoration consists of a twelve-pointed star representing the founding members of the Federation, crafted from transparent aluminum with a holographic peace dove at its center that appears to fly when viewed from different angles. The ribbon features a gradient from war’s darkness to peace’s light.

Humanitarian Achievements

Historical recipients have been honored for:

  • Evacuating entire planetary populations from natural disasters
  • Negotiating ceasefires during active conflicts to allow medical aid
  • Establishing neutral zones for refugee protection
  • Coordinating galaxy-wide pandemic response efforts

Nomination Process

Nominations can originate from any Federation citizen, member government, or allied power. The Federation Council’s Humanitarian Committee reviews submissions with input from affected populations.
